We are looking for a junior furniture maker to join our team. You will work closely with Matthew and Jack to produce our designs using a combination of workshop machinery and traditional hand tools. We run a small workshop and as the third member of our team you will be intimately connected to the development of our business. This is a role that will focus on nurturing the skills necessary to make Bibbings & Hensby furniture to the highest standard and at a commercial pace.
The position will initially be for 3 months, but all going well, we intend this to become a permanent role for the right person, so we are looking for someone who would like to grow with us into the future.
Experience:
This role will suit someone with at least 1 year of experience in furniture making and who can demonstrate skill and proficiency in making work relevant to our own. Your experience could be from education, professional work, or a serious and sustained hobby. What we are most interested in seeing is a portfolio of work that demonstrates experience and skill relevant to our principles and approach.
Skills and requirements:
-
We are looking for someone who is suited to producing work of the highest standard whist working at a commercial pace.
-
You must be proficient in the use of traditional hand tools. A lot of our work is free hand or judged by eye and we are looking for someone with a natural aptitude for this.
-
You will have experience in cutting traditional joinery by hand to exacting tolerances.
-
You must be trained in, or experienced in, the use of common workshop machinery such as a table saw, spindle moulder, band saw, planer/thicknesser, etc… It’s not mandatory that you are overly experienced in everything, but we aren’t looking for a newcomer to workshop machinery.
-
Some degree of familiarity with SketchUp and/or Fusion360 would be helpful.
-
You’ll be expected to own your own hand tools.
-
We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds.
Qualifications:
No specific qualifications are required, but a formal training in furniture making and machining would be welcome.
A driving license wouldn’t go amiss.
Application:

Interviews and assessment:
We will be offering interviews to a selection of applicants. We will also be asking interviewees to take a brief skills assessment which will aim to evaluate their hand tool skills and aptitude for our working practices.
